What a difference BigMac makes – 500 little calories

(sing this headline to the song “What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours…)

Found this on my quest to read the web every day:

In Seminole County, Florida, kids who get all A’s and B’s, have a good attendance record, or receive good marks for behavior can get a free Happy Meal at their local McDonald’s.

There is additional interesting trivia to this story, like the fact that the envelopes the report cards are sent in have this offer printed on – have to say, a probably very good and inexpensive ad campaign for McDonalds, probably just printing the envelopes for the school and maybe even paying the postage.

But that’s not really the point – what I find so fascinating is that the kids that have good grades, probably because their parents keep them away from junk food are now directly targeted to lower their grades. It is probably true that a Big Mac once in a while will not kill a kid, but why get them started in the first place. There is so much good food around actually nourishing a body that there is no need for Big Macs.

And want to see what happens if the exposure is increased and made permanent? Look at this guy who was loaned out to the the US for just a few years…

and what happened to him when he moved back to Italy a few years later after a diet of good American junk food…

PS: sorry for the little bug that I got onto your screen up there at the top of the article – it’s totally harmless, so don’t worry.

The photoshopping was quite amusing, regardless of whether or not you found it or did it yourself…I consumed a lot of fast food in my high school days and had excellent grades, and terrible parents…So go figure. I’m all for opinionated blogs but things like this only take off if there is some ironic truth hidden in your grains of wisdom…sadly there is not. Good luck in the future. 🙂

The exception to the rule does not necessarily break the rule, at least not these kind of rules that are based on empirical observations and statistics. You were just lucky to be on the very far end of the bell curve, just like the guy on the other far end of that curve who eats only the most wholesome food and is still dumb as a baseball.

First off, seminole county florida is the nicest place in america.

Second, its a free happy meal for getting good grades. Its a great idea and happy meals are part of growing up. The person who wrote this article directly associates eating McDonalds with getting bad grades, which is ridiculous, but always says eating a Big Mac once in a while “probably” wont kill you. There is nothing wrong with eating fast food, the problem with the obesity in this country is that people dont exercise or play sports, but that is not the case in beautiful seminole county so the big mac deal should continue.

It seems McDonalds is trying to move into new ground. It is frustrating, why doesn’t Texas Instruments give free calculators to kids on the honor role? Hmmm wait a second, those are probably the only kids who buy their product. Our country does not encourage real academics.

I am a CPA, and have a masters degree in business. I have gotten straight A’s my hole life and eaten a lot of McDonald’s. There is nothing wrong with a little junk food here and there. I love the David statue photoshopped. Classic. Did you shrink his penis or does it just look smaller in contrast to his bigger body?

I agree that once in a while a bit of junk food does not hurt – but big mac’s?? – at least get In-N-Out double-doubles. Nothing done to the anatomy by me 😉

By the way, dear commentors, if you leave a comment in order to bring a pointer to your website in the author field, that is border line. If the comment is contributing or funny, I might let it be, but not using a real name (ok – you could certainly fake one so I don’t know) puts your comment in grave danger of being removed. Or is the last posters first name really Payday and his last name Loans? Using half-baked SEO stuff instead of real names will probably get the web pointer removed and the name replaced by Peter Smith.

Obviously Mr. Payday Loans is lucky because I have to leave this comment unchanged, otherwise this comment will not make sense, right?
