Watching boing boing tv today I leaned that it is David Silverman, the Simpson’s director, who mans this most dangerous instrument.
I had seen and enjoyed a video clip from what looks like burning man of a man playing “Oops I did it again” (Britney Spears). The accompanying text on the YouTube video does not mention David Silverman, so I am now wondering if Silverman is really the only Tubatron player in the world, or if there is another doing this at burning man.
But whoever it is – it’s definitely worth watching.

That’s the best Britney Spears cover I’ve ever seen. Flaming sousaphones, kilts, drag, and a main vocalist who sounds like TACO (the guy who did that Puttin’ on the Ritz cover in the 80s); it is nothing if not majestic and life-affirming.
As per your question, the Burning Man setting, the similar features, the _identical_ utilikilt, boots, and flaming sousaphone rig all point towards this being David Silverman. Really, it would be the most amazing of coincidences if this weren’t Mr. Silverman.

This is so great to hear good news about Lou’s fight with cancer. Often the word itself is so scary that people just fold when it is spoken. I love it that he did not make that mistake. A friend who thought that the traditional treatment of his cancer would reduce his quality of life so much that there would be hardly any quality left, went there and came back 3 weeks later totally OK.
