Happiness - real or synthetic
Filed Under Inspiration, Philosophical, Science |
Harvard psychologist Dan Gilbert says our beliefs about what will make us happy are often wrong — a premise he supports with intriguing research, and explains in his accessible and unexpectedly.
Thus is the introduction to an article about the “scientific proof” that the current crop of gurus is right, that…
- We create our own reality;
- we attract to us what we put our attention on
I put together two interesting talks from TED in the article Synthetic Happiness on the Universal Serenity site.

Great videos. I agree that we do create our own reality. The same goes for happiness. I believe happiness is what we are, not something that comes from the outside. This world is made of polarities, and we can experience so called negativity and still be happy inside. We are here to experience the entire tone scale, so why do we consider ourselves not happy if we get sad or angry temporarily? To be happy I believe we have to know who we are. With that knowingness, little trips into the lower tone scale don’t affect our happiness. It’s the people who don’t know who they are who create the lower tones most of the time and then consider they are not happy.
Right, if we don’t label some emotions as good and others as bad we can enjoy them all. The motto would be - life to the fullest. And if you can’t be happy with a real deep sadness how could you enjoy that bliss?
